About TELEVIE
35+ years fighting cancer. €266M+ raised. 3,043 researchers supported. A story of solidarity, science and hope.
What is TELEVIE?
TELEVIE is Belgium's largest fundraising programme for oncological research, founded in 1988/1989 by Prof. Arsène Burny on the initiative of RTL Belgium.
Unlike other fundraising programmes, TELEVIE has a unique feature: all funds raised are managed and distributed by the FNRS (Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique) — Belgium's most prestigious research institution.
This structure guarantees that every euro reaches real researchers, rigorously selected through independent scientific evaluation processes.
From 2026, TELEVIE is expanding to Romania — based in Cluj-Napoca, with the vision of building the first European-standard cancer centre outside Belgium.

The Partnership with FNRS Belgium
The FNRS (Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique) is the Belgian federal organisation responsible for funding fundamental research. Founded in 1928, FNRS is Belgium's oldest and most prestigious research fund.
The TELEVIE-FNRS partnership ensures that project selection is done exclusively on scientific excellence criteria, not political or commercial ones.
The TELEVIE-FNRS commission, chaired by Prof. Burny from 1989 to 2025, has evaluated and approved thousands of oncological research projects.
In Romania, TELEVIE works with FCS (Fondul pentru Cercetare Științifică — the Romanian Research Fund) — the Romanian equivalent of the Belgian FNRS — for the selection and funding of oncological research projects.
